Sisterhood Helped Me Thrive: Personal Stories of Strength and Support from My Pageant Sisters

Updated: 5 days ago

Competing in pageants might seem like a solo mission at times, filled with sparkling gowns and the weight of expectation. This past year, alongside my incredible pageant sisters—Miss Blackstone Valley Hunter Schulz, Miss Worcester County Josette Huang, and Miss Blackstone Valley's Teen Laila Hosnander—I discovered a familial bond that not only supported my journey but also celebrated every achievement, big or small.

My Support System

From my very first day in the pageant world, I was welcomed with open arms by these remarkable women. Hunter is always my biggest cheerleader, encouraging me during rehearsals and events. For instance, there was a tense moment before a big presentation when she reminded me to focus on my passion rather than my nerves. Josette, with her thoughtful advice and calming presence, helped me stay grounded before competitions. Laila's infectious energy has brought so many laughs to our rehearsals, making each session enjoyable.

When I found myself overwhelmed with preparations one week, I turned to our group chat. I shared my worries and within minutes, my phone buzzed with supportive messages. For example, Laila sent a fun GIF that made us all laugh, reminding me to lighten up and remember the joy that comes with this journey. Their enthusiasm reinvigorated my spirit and refocused my mind on the purpose behind competing.

Bonding at Events

One of the standout joys in this journey has been participating in events together. Whether we're engaged in charity work, attending local fairs, or taking part in community service, we always find ways to make our experiences memorable.

Posing for photographs and interacting with community members, I felt an undeniable sense of belonging. We weren't just participants competing for crowns; we were sisters uniting to support each other through every moment—both on and off the stage. The camaraderie we built strengthened our bond through shared laughter and genuine connection.

Competition Can’t Break Us

In the pageant world, it's easy to think of competition as cutthroat. However, my experience has been quite the opposite. Of course, we all want to win, but our true desire is to see each other succeed. I vividly remember the day of our state competition when nerves ran high. Instead of worrying about who might outshine whom, we huddled together backstage for a group hug, calming each other down and emphasizing sisterhood.

During the question and answer segment, as I was articulating my thoughts, I spotted Hunter and Josette cheering me on. Their support gave me the confidence to express my views fully. Competing against each other has only fortified our sisterhood, proving that we can uplift rather than undermine.

Growing Together

This past year has been far more than just a quest for titles; it has been a journey of collective growth. My sisters have helped me grow not only as a competitor but also as an individual ready to face life’s challenges. For example, Laila’s youthful perspective often inspires me to embrace a more playful outlook on life.

Reflecting on My Journey

As I reflect on this transformative journey, it is clear that the sisterhood I have formed with Hunter, Josette, and Laila has been invaluable. The laughter, support, and wisdom we share have profoundly shaped my experience. We are more than just competitors; we are sisters united by our passion for growth and advocacy.

Moving forward in my pageantry journey, I carry their support with me. True beauty lies not only in the crowns we wear but in the connections we cultivate along the way. Here's to empowering one another and thriving together, because with sisterhood, every crown feels lighter, and every dream becomes attainable.
