Bite Back Hunger
Advocating for Food Equity

What is Food Equity?

Food Equity refers to the concept of ensuring that everyone, regardless of their background or socioeconomic status, has access to affordable, healthy, affordable and culturally significant food. It’s about making sure that food systems are equitable, so no one is left behind. Food equity is crucial because access to healthy food directly impacts people's well-being, physical health, and overall quality of life. Unfortunately, many communities still face barriers to obtaining affordable, nutritious meals, which can lead to health disparities, especially in underserved areas.

The Food Equity initiative begins at the local level—working with nearby farms, gardens, and community organizations to grow fresh, nutritious produce. These efforts are then channeled into programs that provide healthy meals to those who need them most. By working directly with these local resources, the initiative ensures that healthy food is not only available but also affordable to those in need. The goal is to bridge the gap between fresh food production and access, fostering healthier communities and reducing food insecurity.

My Journey with Food Equity

The Start:

My Grandfather's strict diet

I became personally involved with Food Equity after watching my grandfather, who had diabetes, kidney disease, and had undergone a double amputation, struggle with maintaining a healthy diet. Living with my family, I saw firsthand how difficult it was to manage his health through food, especially when healthy, nutritious options weren't easily available. His strict diet was essential for his well-being, but finding affordable and nutritious meals was a constant challenge. This experience opened my eyes to the vital role that access to healthy food plays in managing chronic conditions and improving lives.

Community Servings:

Volunteering locally

My journey into community service began with volunteering at Community Servings, a Boston-based nonprofit organization that provides medically tailored meals to individuals facing critical illnesses. Through this experience, I saw the power of food in improving people's health and the direct impact it could have on individuals and families. Upon winning Miss Worcester County’s Teen, I was inspired to take my passion for food equity to the next level. I decided to focus on creating a more widespread impact by branching into the food equity initiative, building on my volunteer experiences and personal connection to the cause.

Expanding my Intiative

Bite Back Hunger: Advocating Food Equity

Bite Back Hunger is an exciting initiative dedicated to advocating for food equity in our community. I am thrilled to announce my partnership with local farms to source fresh produce and host an upcoming food drive aimed at supporting those in need. Winning the title of Miss Teen would allow me to expand this initiative even further, amplifying our efforts to combat hunger and promote sustainable practices. Together, we can make a meaningful impact and ensure everyone has access to nutritious food.
